KYLE GEORGE TAKES OUT THE 2010 WINTER SERIES

After 4 rounds of action, it was Hamilton driver Kyle George who took home the winners trophy for this year’s Formula First Winter Series.

After a dominating qualifying effort, the first race saw the number 9 Spectrum Architectural metals challenge power away at the start, only to be chased down by a storming Michael Scott with a few laps to go. But George would hold on by the smallest of margins in the end to take the victory, with Matt Higham, Bramwell King and Hayden Pederson filling out the top five.

Race two was a spread affair, as both George and Scott powered away from the field, leaving the crowd’s attention to the third place battle between Matt Higham and the 19 Sabre of Cory Holmes.

The battle would be short lived, as coming out of turn one with a few laps to go, slight contact occurred – causing the bright blue machine to go round. But there was enough time for the two drivers to help each other set personal best times around the circuit, showing a hint of what is to come during the summer season just around the corner. Fourth would go to King, who had been collecting consistent points throughout the events – with Speedsport Scholarship winner Hayden Pederson in fifth.

The third and final race of the day brought a fair bit of drama to the weekend, as with a few laps to go a pulled spark plug lead would cause the then leading car of Kyle George to slow, handing the first position (and inaugural victory) to the bright yellow machine of Michael Scott.

Struggling to keep any pace, George returned to pit lane…on the very last lap – thus causing the commentators to go wild, thinking the bright red machine had to cross the line on the track to claim the winter series title. But this was not the case, and by eleven points, your 2010 winter series champion – Kyle George.

Second overall would go to Matt Higham, with Bramwell King taking the third place trophy.

So with a matter of weeks before the real thing starts and with the 09/10 champion Michael Shepherd also showing good pace during the Saturday test sessions, the class couldn’t be closer heading into the opening round at the historic Manfeild raceway park on October 2nd/3rd.
