Reigning champ and current point’s leader Michael Shepherd continued his winning ways at round 3 of the 2010 Weldwell NZ Formula First championship over the weekend, taking a 100% victory record.
Although it wasn’t as easy as it seems, as fellow championship contender Kyle George took the pole position from qualifying, and was giving Shepherd everything throughout the event. But unfortunately an engine failure in race 1 has most likely cost the Hamiltonian any chance of the 2010 championship. He did come back during races 2 and 3, with a third and a second, respectively.
The driver second place in the championship, Ryan Hellier continued his consistent pace, taking the opportunities when they presented themselves. Hellier capitalized on George’s issues with two second places and a third, sealing second overall for the weekend.
The championship heads to the high speeds of the legendary Pukekohe Park Raceway for round four of the championship next, but be sure to check back later for a more in depth account from the weekend…
