After a weekend of unpredictable weather conditions, there was one common outcome, as 2009/10 champ Michael Shepherd continued his domination of class - taking pole position and three wins at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park.
The driver second in points, Ryan Hellier gained a stranglehold on the spot, as consistent pace and a continuing Hampton Downs ‘curse’ for Kyle George enabled a significant points advantage.
George (who possibly had the race of the weekend during the race 1, coming from 14th to 2ndin wet conditions) failed to complete the final race of the weekend, as the left front wheel was barely holding on after being sheared from the car, losing valuable points for his run for second place in the championship.
Meanwhile, an improved performance by Te Puke’s Michael Scott added another ingredient to the mix of the youth brigade, as Ruthven, Higham, Plummer and Holmes continued their intense battles throughout the weekend.
With the final round of the Weldwell NZ Formula First championship over a month away, on the 23/24th of April, be sure to check out FormulaFirst.co.nz for a full report and an image update over the coming weeks.
