Easter weekend was the date for the final round of the New Zealand Formula First championship, which saw Michael Shepherd go back-to-back, taking out the final nine races in a row to clinch the 2010/11 championship.

Held under overcast conditions, the event was dominated by Shepherd. The #1 Go Rentals/Inov8 machine claimed pole position and all three races untroubled, showing another example of his utter supremacy of this year’s championship season.

The battle for the minors throughout the weekend was an intense one, as Ryan Hellier, Matt Higham and Kyle George would battle it out for the second place position.

Second place in the championship however, was done after the first race, as Hellier was confirmed the runner-up spot – showing consistency can prevail.

Kyle George would take out third place overall, as a season dominated by peaks and valleys came to an end for the Hamiltonian.

Stand out performances over the weekend by Matt Higham, including a personal best second place finish, put pressure on for the fourth place in the championship. But it was Dave Ruthven who would take the spot, just three points ahead of the much improved Higham.

Once again, congratulations go out to Michael Shepherd and the MSR, as he claims his fifth and final championship trophy, more than claiming the G.O.A.T status in the Weldwell Formula First class.
