CASSIDY DOMINATES FORMULA FIRST ENDURANCE CLASSIC

Only arriving to the rain soaked town of Feilding the morning of the event, TRS and Midget car star Nick Cassidy was the class of the field at this year’s FFirst one hour enduro.

After a quick 15 minute test session, the race began – delayed start/handicap style. As the groups left the grid, it was down to the final rows that included Kiwi V8 Supercar star Shane van Gisbergen, Nick Cassidy and the drivers who finished 2nd and 3rd in the championship – Ryan Hellier and Kyle George.

Unfortunately for van Gisbergen, the race was over before it really began, as engine issues caused him to retire in the Sabre Motorsport machine after the opening laps.

But Cassidy carried on, putting in consistently fast lap times in treacherous conditions, as the wet circuit now had the addition of oil on the racing line.

This lightning pace along with the quick fuel stops put the 2010/11 Toyota Racing Series Rookie of the year in an unbeatable position, claiming the race win 25 seconds infront of Ryan Hellier and Hayden Pederson.

One of the unique aspects of this event is the ‘dual drive’ group, where two drivers can team up and share the event between them, all for the coveted dual drive title.

This year’s victory went to the all-star team of Graeme Lett and Paul Butler in the ERL alvee, finishing a lap ahead of second placed father and son squad of Jason & Ron Carter with Dave Scammell and Craig Greenwood in bringing Black Sunshine home in third.

So congratulations go to the Nick Cassidy and his crew for the victorious performance, as the 2010/11 season comes to an end. But with the 2011 winter series only weeks away, be sure to check out FormulaFirst.co.nz for the latest news.
