Another young Formula First NZ driver is off to test a Toyota Racing TR 86 car. This time Jacob Smith has annouced he will get behind the wheel of the one make series car at Hampton Downs in early August.

"This is an awesome opportunity for me and the team and although not the single seater that I'm used to I cant wait to get behind the wheel of a race spec Tin Top to explore other options for my future in Motorsport!!!" Smith said on his FaceBook page.

Earlier this week fellow Formula First NZ driver Elliot Andrew annouced he would be testing the car at Manfeild. The Toyota TR 86 class covers six rounds over seven months and shares billings with the NZV8 Touring Cars, New Zealand’s premier motor racing championship the Toyota Racing Series, and which includes the New Zealand Grand Prix weekend at Manfeild.

Boasting a six point FIA-approved roll cage, integrated Motex dash, Sparco Touring-car race seat and race steering wheel, the TR 86 is ideal for Toyota Finance 86 Championship drivers.

The vehicles also feature specially-tuned adjustable suspension, racing brake package and run on 18-inch Speedline motorsport wheels fitted with slick tyres.

Each car is built to a low volume vehicle certification which means they can be driven on public roads provided the owner holds a MotorSport New Zealand competition licence.
